2: Spatial Design (Selected works)

Graduate Project:

Hangzhou Sandun Lanli · East Tourist Centre Space Reformation Design

Design Statement:

Based on the theory of regionalism and architectural field, this design tries to open up the internal and external fields, build a new model of dynamic and inclusive visitor centre, extend and transfer the function of internal space, and revitalize the overall ecology of the scenic area.

Since the internal space of the building is not spacious, poorly lit, and with unused and wasted space, it tries to shape the dynamic space of change and create a distinctive "white box". In addition, the function of the Visitor Centre as a general distribution point for tourists is integrated into the overall spatial structure, complementing each other and breaking down barriers.
Setting up the "container"-theme pavilion, which is similar to the sub-distribution point of tourists, expands the function of the visitor centre, creates an open field and function transfer, and tries to solve the problem of the absence of the visitor centre in the process of tourists' visit to the Lanli scenic area.

Best Design Practice Award of ZJUT - Xiaoheshan Park Design Contest

The Park of Star, Xiaoheshan Future Community Reformation Design

Site Information:

Covering an area of 57 acres, the current situation in the base consists of tea gardens, a small amount of arable land and wasteland. There is a balsam camphor tree with a crown of about 6 metres as well as a nearby sedimentation pond, and there is a residential area (Xiaohuoshan community) on the south-west side of the base, while the east and north-east sides are all mountainous.

Design Statement:

This design is based on the humanistic perspective, aiming to let people go out of their homes to participate in and enjoy the new community park mode of wisdom and ecological integration. The park is divided into north and south parts, of which the south area is a combination of static and dynamic, the main target groups are children, youth and some elderly groups, with all kinds of comprehensive activities, including community activity centres and cultural corridors (both open-air cinema function), children's play area, rock-climbing area, sports plaza, as well as waterfront barbecue area, picnic and leisure area, ecological experience area (tea plantation is the main one), with moderate density of forest distribution; the north area is centred on the cultural hall, with small amount of ancillary landscape facilities, with relatively large density of forest distribution; and the north area is centred on the culture hall. The north area is centred on the cultural hall, with small ancillary landscape facilities, and the density of forest distribution is relatively large.

Future, wisdom, ecology and culture are the main keywords of this design.

The overall design is inspired by the connection between the special shape of the seven stars of the Big Dipper and the alternation of seasons: "When the handle of the Big Dipper points to the east, all the world is in spring; when the handle of the Big Dipper points to the south, all the world is in summer; when the handle of the Big Dipper points to the west, all the world is in autumn; when the handle of the Big Dipper points to the north, all the world is in winter" (The Crossbill). (The alternation of seasons is closely related to the "yellow and red angle", which is the fundamental reason for the change of seasons and the differentiation of the five zones on the earth, and it influences the natural geographical phenomena closely related to it, and different geographical environments give birth to different people around the world. People in the Xiaowo Mountain community come from all over the world (mainly from Africa), but they all share the same starry sky; the Big Dipper, as one of the representatives of the starry constellations in the vast universe, is an important part of the world's culture. In addition, two special plant belts are set up in the southern area to create and restore the African ecological landscape, and organically combine with the local special tea plantation and bamboo forest to bring a sense of closeness to international friends and at the same time reflect its local nature.

Node 3 - Star Frost
Functional demand for balanced waterfront earthworks

Creative landscape wall, ground hanging baskets, staggered pavilion corridor three characteristic structures as a group, through the connection and division of the design approach, and forests reflect each other, not only to meet the needs of the hard square shade without losing beauty.

Special Node - Smoke and Cloud - Overhead Trail
The Rhetoric of Returning to China by Tao Yuanmin

"The clouds have already left the mountain without any intention, and the birds are tired of flying and know how to return."

《归去来兮辞》陶渊明

“云无心已出岫,鸟倦飞而知还。”
The shape of the seven stars of the Big Dipper echoes the theme of the design.
The original meaning of the poem is to go back to the mountains and forests, to relax in seclusion.
